Parrish Brothers Carry Olathe North To The 6A Team Championship By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Brett Schwartz, who owns the farthest discus mark in the country this spring at 210-7, won the Class 3A state title over the weekend at Kansas state track and field championships at Wichita State University. Schwartz, of Santa Fe Trail, threw 200 feet, 4 inches in the state final. He also took third place in the shot put with 52-9. Ka'Liyah McGinnis of Olathe North won the 6A 100 with a wind-aided 11.60 and also ran a personal best 24.25 in the prelims of the 200. Running into a -5.5 m/s headwind, she ran 25.34 to win the final. Sophomore hurdler Olivia Cooper led the Olathe Northwest girls to the team title with her victory in the 100-meter hurdles (14.95w), sixth place in the 300 hurdles and she ran on two scoring relays. The team also scored big in the throws, with Adrienne Locke Garcia winning the shot put, Val Galligan winning the javelin and Kendall Yarell taking second in the discus. Jacob Parrish won the 6A boys 100 meters in a wind-aided 10.47 seconds and the 200 in 22.47 to lead the Olathe North boys to a team championship. His younger brothers Josh and Jason also became champions. Josh won the 110-meter hurdles (14.40) and the long jump (22-1.50) and Jason and Josh went 1-2 in the 300-meter hurdles (38.96 and 39.32). Jacob and Josh were part of the second-place 4x100 relay. Jason was on the third-place 4x400 relay. William Jones of Blue Valley, who broke the all-time state best in the 400 meters earlier this spring when he ran US#5 46.49, won the 6A state title in 47.95 and also took second in the 200 with 22.50 into a significant headwind. Henry Martin of Blue Valley North won an intense competition across all six classes to find out who had the strongest arm in the javelin. Martin won the Class 6A title with US#6 208-3. Riley Marx of Andale, the 4A champion, threw 206-5 in the javelin and owns the US#7 spot. He also won the discus to help Andale win the team championship. A third top-10 thrower, Brooks Lowe from Blue Valley West, threw US#10 205-1 to finish second in the 6A competition behind Martin. McKenzie Fairchild, the U.S. leader in the girls javelin with an early season mark of 169-4, won three events to lead Andale to the girls 4A championship. She won the javelin with 163-3, the discus with 130-1 and the shot put with 40-3.25. Brothers Ashton and Bryce Barkdull went 1-2 in the 5A boys pole vault for Andover Central. Ashton, a senior, cleared 16-7.25 for the win. Bryce, a sophomore, made 15-0.
