MICHIGAN STATE MEET

Kaila Jackson, Leeah Burr Lead Renassance To D1 Team Title

 By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

The combination of Kaila Jackson and Leeah Burr, plus additional Detroit Renaissance teammate, proved overwhelming as the Phoenix won the LP D1 girls team championship with 80 points.

Jackson won the 100 (11.64) and 200 (23.51) and Burr won the 400 (55.05) on the way to the title. Those two also contributed to wins in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

That speed overcame Oak Park's hurdles crew, which went 1-2-3 in the 100-meter hurdles. Nonah Waldron won the final in 13.90.

Ann Arbor Pioneer was missing standout Natalie Forsyth, but still won the 4x800 relay in 8:55.58.

Sophomore Shamar Heard of Clinton Township Chippewa Valley won the boys 100 meters final in 10.77 and 21.32.

Jaiden Reed, second in the 100 meters, helped power Univerity of Detroit Jesuit to wins in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays on the way to the team title.

Eastbay Cross Country champion Riley Hough from Hartland won the boys 1,600 meters in 4:07.61 but was outkicked in the 3,200 meters by Benne Anderson of Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills, 9:02.89 to 9:03.68.

Ariane Olson of Holland West Ottawa ran 10:12.43 to win the girls 3,200.

In the D2 meet, Jamal Hailey led Berrian Springs to the boys title with his wins in the 100 (10.77) and 200 (22.11).

Camryn Bodine won the 800 (2:12.46) and Drew Muller won the 1,600 (4:51.41) to help East Grand Rapids win the D2 girls title.

Hunter Jones of Benzie Central won the D3 800 meters in 1:52.68 and the 1,600 in 4:10.68. He was second in the 3,200.

Abby VanderKooi won the 3,200 meters, placed second in the 1,600 and fourth in the 800 to help Muskegon Western Michigan Christian win the girls D4 team championship. It was her third state 3,200 meters title to go with four that she won in cross country.
