Distinguished Journalist Covered Sports In Southern California For More Than 20 Years

By DyeStat

It is with a heavy heart during this championship week that our DyeStat and RunnerSpace families mourn the loss of our colleague and friend Landon Negri and his untimely death Monday. He was 52.

Landon was a father of three children, along with a writer, copy editor and page designer for the Southern California Newspaper Group, but he was also one of the respected cross country and track and field journalists in the industry, covering both sports for more than 20 years, including the past five as a significant contributor for DyeStat.com and RunnerSpace.com.

Landon was instrumental in the coverage of events ranging from the youth to professional levels, and providing a spotlight on competitions spanning local invitationals to national championships.

His valuable experience, tireless work ethic, selfless approach, remarkable leadership and genuine care for student-athletes made Landon an integral part of the expansion of our coverage and the growth of our families.

Through his career newspaper work at The Californian and more recently with the Southern California Newspaper Group, in addition to his many stories and interviews contributed to DyeStat.com and RunnerSpace.com, Landon remains connected to the current competitors as well as the extensive history of meets such as Nike Cross Nationals and the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships that will be celebrated again during this postseason.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his daughters Cami and Caroline, and his son Noah, along with family members, friends, colleagues, administrators, coaches and student-athletes who have experienced Landon’s professionalism, authenticity and kindness.

A GoFundMe account has been created to help Landon’s family with costs for the celebration of life, scheduled for late December.
