Centennial’s Iyonna Codd Triple Winner; Bishop Gorman’s Chase McCallum Rare 300 Hurdles/800 Double; Whittell’s Avignon Rippet Wins Four Events; Incline’s Noah McMahan Wins Four Events By, John Dixon for DyeStat The 3A/2/1A NIAA State Championships were held at Carson High School in Carson City, while the 4A Championships were held at Desert Oasis High in Las Vegas. Both meets were held on May 17 and 18. Boys 5A - Team Champion - Shadow Ridge Bishop Gorman’s Chase McCallum (photo above) doubled in the 300-meter hurdles (38.67) and 800 (1:54.01). Reno’s Eric Ortega-Gammill doubled in 1,600 (4:10.90) and 3,200 (9:19.07). Faith Lutheran’s Preston Beery won the shot put (66-3) and Discus (183-7). Liberty’s Ronnie Kendrick won the 400 meters in 46.84 and also placed third in the 100 (10.68) and second in the 200 (21.41). 4A - Team Champion - Desert Oasis Desert Oasis got wins from junior Keenan Dagge in the 1,600 (4:20.18) and 3,200 (9:28.88), junior Noah Lara in the 110 hurdles (14.49) and junior Brenden Adams in the long jump (22-00.75). Mojave senior Tony Williams won the 200 (21.79) and 400 (47.65). Mojave also won the 4x100 (41,75), 4x200 (1:26.74) and 4x400 (3:22.99). Sierra Vista senior Jerron Baker won the triple jump (47-1.25). 3A - Team Champion - Moapa Valley Sparks senior Chris Cornier was a triple winner in 100 (10.95), 200 (22.32) and 400 (48.32). Lowry senior Nomar Aguirre won the shot put (56-0.75) and discus (167-8). Team Champion Moapa Valley had one first-place winner with Mordechai Yadegar in the 3,200 (9:31.31), but scored in 16 of 18 events. 2A - Team Champion - Coral Academy-Reno Incline senior Noah McMahan won four events with the 800 (1:59.15), 1,600 (4:22.62), 3,200 (9:42.05) and anchor leg of the 4x800 (8:40.27). Coral Academy junior Liam Powell won the 110 hurdles (15.51) and 300 hurdles (40.82). Green Valley Christian junior Judah Withey won the shot put with a mark of 57-0. 1A - Team Champion - Mineral County Whittell sophomore Logan Robertson tripled with wins in 800 (2:05.88), 1,600 (4:45.37) and 3,200 (11:02.00). Mineral County freshman Quentin Isom won the 400 (52.86) and triple jump (42-1.25) and was on the winning 4x100 relay (45.46). Girls 5A Team Champion - Centennial Centennial’s Iyonna Codd won the 100 meters in 11.61 seconds as well as the 200 (23.92). She also ran 53.49 to break the state meet record in the 400 meters. Kemarah Howard won the high jump with a clearance at 5-10 and also won the triple jump (38-10) and placed second in the long jump 19-3.50 (+4.5). Palo Verde’s Tia Brown won the 300-meter hurdles (42.74) and long jump 19-4 (+3.1). She was also second in the 100 hurdles (14.21) and third in the high jump (5-4). Reno freshman MacKenzie Sellers won the pole vault at 12 feet based on fewer misses over Liberty’s Kaylee Daniels. Bishop Manogue senior Amaya Aramini won the 1,600 (4:56.63) and 3,200 (10:44.21). Galena junior Eleanor Raker was second in 1,600 (5:01.59), 3,200 (11:13.97) and third in 800 (2:15.91). 4A Team Champion - Arbor View Arbor View won the 4x100 (48.13), 4x200 (1:42.41) and 4x800 (9:39.54). The team also had a double winner in senior Bridget Guevara in 400 (57.63) and 800 (2:21.43). Arbor View freshman Leah Groppenbacher won the 1,600 (5:25.92) and placed fourth in the 800 (2:27.66) and 3,200 (12.04.34). 3A Team Champion - Truckee Truckee junior Sidney McIntosh won the 1,600 (5:23.98) and 3,200 (11:28.55) and placed third in 800 (2:24.22). Boulder City sophomore Sancha Jenas-Keogh won the 100 (12.40) and 200 (25.36). South Tahoe sophomore Arya Saini won the 100 hurdles (15.19) and long jump (16-10.50w +3.5). 2A Team Champion - Coral Academy-Reno North Tahoe junior Alexis Hallenberg won the 400 (59.22) and 800 (2:24.56). Teammate Kalena Steves won the 1,600 (5:32.24) and 3,200 (12:31.41). Incline junior Lauren Janssen wins 100 hurdles (16.53) and 300 hurdles (49.91). Lake Mead Christian junior Tenaya Brown won the shot put (33-7.75) and discus (126-1). 1A Team Champion - Whittell Whittell senior Avignon Rippet won the 100 (12.55), 200 (26.36) ,400 (1:01.41) and long jump (17-4.50) to lead her team to the championship. Sage Ridge sophomore Lauren Sherven won the 800 (2:41.80) and 1,600 (6:04.78). Indian Springs junior Oriyah Clay won the 100 hurdles (15.80), 300 hurdles (47.62) and triple jump (34-4w +4.0).
