Jihsana Williams Wins 100-200 Double To Power Chugiak Girls Victory; Alan Szewczyk Jr Wins Third Straight 300 Hurdles Crown By Mary Albl of DyeStat The Chugiak girls track and field team continued its dominance at the highest level at the Alaska state championships, showcasing more than its traditional distance power. Held at Dimond High in Anchorage, Chugiak was led in the sprints by freshman Jihsana Williams’ victories in the 100 (12.33) and 200 (25.81). She was also part of the gold medal 4x100 relay team (51.02). Junior Aaliyah Fields paced the team in the middle distance events, winning the 800 (2:22.24). The team finished with 133 points, adding wins in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays to win the Division 1 title. On her home turf, freshman Nevaeh Watkins of Diamond claimed two individual golds — the 100 hurdles (15.56) and high jump (5-4). She also finished second in the 300 hurdles (47.65) and was part of the first-place 4x200 relay (1:46.42). In boys Division I action, Eagle River senior Alan Szewczyk Jr. defended his hurdles titles in the 110 and 300, making it three straight 300 hurdles titles for his prep career. Szewczyk also added a third-place finish in the 200. On the track, Ketchikan junior Jason Lorgi broke a meet record in the 100 dash prelims, clocking 10.81. He went on to defend his title in the event in the finals running 11.06. He finished fourth in the 200. In the team race, Bartlett won, scoring 75 points. The team was paced by A'Lante Owens-Player’s wins in the long jump (22-5.75) and triple jump (46-1). In Division II, the Sitka girls and boys easily won the team titles. On the girls side, standout distance runner Clare Mullen swept the distance events, winning the 800 (2:20.39), 1,600 (5:18.54) and 3,200 (11:19.51). In Division II boys action, Grace Christian junior Robbie Annett claimed the 1,600 (4:24.34) and 3,200 (9:29.28). Teammate Colton Merriner was runner-up in both events. Annett finished second in the 800. Sitka claimed the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 relay titles.
