Bedford Rolls To Team Sweep In Division 1 By Mary Albl of DyeStat Bedford easily repeated as the boys and girls Division I state champions at the New Hampshire Divisional State Championships, May 23-25 at Portsmouth High/ The Bedford boys team tallied 104 points as Jacob Redman claimed the 800 in a meet record time of 1:53.09, won the 1,600 (4:19.54) and finished fourth in the 3,200. On the track, Pinkerton won the 4x100 in a divisional-record time of 42.54. In the field, Nick Reynolds stole the spotlight with a record-setting throw of 205-10 in the javelin, US#8. The Bedford girls were led by standout Anika Scott who broke the overall state record in the 100 hurdles, running 14.19. Scott also won the 300 hurdles (44.81) and the long jump (18-9.75). The Pinkerton girls won the 4x100 in a state record time of 47.88. In Division II, two new names stood atop the podium as Coe-Brown’s state streak came to an end on Friday at Oyster River High. The Hanover boys scored 93 to win the state title and end Coe-Brown’s four year run. Coe-Brown was runner-up with 66 points. Hanover won the 4x100, 4x2 and 4x4, and finished third in terms of 4x8 relays. Individually, Lucian Gleiser claimed the 1,600 title in 4:21.37 and was second in the 800. In the field, Coe-Brown’s Elias Warner won the discus (152-5) and finished second in the shot put. In girls DII, a deep and talented Oyster River ran away with the state championship scoring 137 points. Coe-Brown, winner of the last three titles, was second with 61.50 points. Erin Carey won the 100 hurdles in a divisional-record time of 14.69 and added a win in the 300 hurdles (46.23) for Oyster River. In the distance events, Haley Kavanagh repeated as state champion in the 800 (2:15.57) and 1,600 (4:58.61), while teammate Mackenzie Cook repeated as the 3,200 champ (11:06.45). Cook ran on the winning 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams. In the field, Coe-Brown claimed the javelin, shot put and discus titles. Both the Division III state titles came down to the wire with the Trinity boys edging out Portsmouth Christian, 55-51 points for the championship at Winnisquam High on Thursday, May 23. In the sprints, Bishop Brady’s Joshua Gentchos set a state record in the 100 (10.65), won the 200 (22.23), and ran on the divisional-record setting 4x100 relay (43.25). Portsmouth Christian’s Jonas Teeter swept the distance events winning the 800, 1 600 and 3,200. The Hopkinton and Pelham girls finished within one point for the title, with Hopkinton scoring 45 points and Pelham 44. Next up is the Meet of Champions held on Sunday, June 2 at Wildcat Stadium in Durham.
