Jack Graffeo Follows In Paul Bergeron's Footsteps, Wins First MIAA Meet Of Champs Title By Mary Albl of DyeStat The wait was with it. After improving each season and running behind former teammate Paul Bergeron, now a Stanford freshman,, Westford Academy’s Jack Graffeo had his state-crowning moment on Saturday at the MIAA Meet Champions at the Devens Willards Athletic Complex. Graffeo, a senior, covered the 5,000-meter course in a winning time of 15 minutes, 17 seconds to claim his first Division 1 state title. He won by more than 15 seconds. The team title went to Brookline, which defended the D1 crown with 62 points, with all five runners placing in the top 31 of the overall standings. The Westford Academy girls also won, claiming the D1 team title with 118 points, holding off Lexington (122 points) and Wellesley (126 points). Individually, Needham junior Greta Hammer won the title in 18:02. History was made in the Division 2 boys race, as Longmeadow claimed the program’s first state title. Longmeadow placed three in the top 21. Overall, Falmouth junior Silas Gartner was the first across the line, winning in 15:42. The Division 2 girls title was won by Whitinsville sophomore Emily Flagg (18:16) as Westwood claimed the team title with 123 points. The Parker Charter boys repeated as the Division 3 champs, claiming the program's third title in the last four years. The team captured the second and fourth spots, while Monument Mountain junior Everett Pacheco won the race in 16:09. Oxford sophomore Cameron David dominated the D3 field, running to a state title in 18:20, 35 seconds faster than the next runner. Hamilton-Wenham denied Bromfield a repeat win, taking the top spot with 89 points and four runners placing in the top 30. Bromfield was second (133 points).
