Beloved Armory Alums Olivia Baker, Katelyn Tuohy, Ajee Wilson Returning For Dr. Sander Scorcher By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor John Nepolitan photos Between the three of them, Olivia Baker, Katelyn Tuohy and Ajee Wilson have enjoyed so many special moments at The Armory that it would foolish to try and count them all. The three professional track stars carved out legacies that go back to their high school days, or even before, with The Armory as a backdrop. And all thre are set to be back in the building for the two-day Dr. Sander Scorcher, a retooled meet that takes elements of the traditional Armory Collegiate and has elite high school and pro events. SANDER SCORCHER LIVE - WEBCAST INFORMATION Wilson has won 18 straight races at The Armory and will face not only Baker, a fellow New Jersey legend, but reigning U.S. champion Nia Akins, in the women's 800 meters on Saturday during the elite window from 12:50 p.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern. Tuohy will open her season by running the mile against Elly Henes and last year's Dr. Sander champion Yolanda Ngarambe of Sweden. The men's mile is a featured atraction with Australian teen Cameron Myers taking on NCAA 1,500 meters record holder Adam Spencer of Wisconsin, Justine Kipkoech from Eastern Kentucky, last year's winner Adam Fogg, and Eric Holt. Courtney Okolo, a 2016 Olympic Games gold medalist in the 4x400 relay, is in the women's 400 meters. In the men's 800, Shane Streich will face Jonah Koech. U.S. triple jump champion Salif Mane, who was sixth in Paris, is entered in the men's long jump. Jessica Oji of Livingston NJ, the U.S. high school leader in the girls shot put, is also expected to compete. She threw 53-6.75 on Jan. 4 at The Armory Hispanic Games. The bulk of the meet is comprised of college competition for dozens of local colleges. To that mix, Wisconsin, BYU (sprints and field event athletes only), Princeton, Maryland and host Columbia are the top programs. Wisconsin's men and women are both entered in the distance medley relay and could be looking to secure a spot high up on the NCAA qualiying list. The men's 3,000 meters inlcudes Matt Rankin from Iona and Abraham Longosiwa of Hofstra, both sub-8 minute runners. More news |
