Clare Mullin Wins 11th State Track Title; Chugiak and Soldotna Share Boys Team Championship; Chugiak Girls Win Again By Mary Albl of DyeStat Clare Mullin left her final state track meet in Alaska the way she started it - a winner. At the ASAA/First Bank Alaska State Track & Field Championships on Saturday, May 31 at Anchorage’s Dimond High School, the Sitka senior won the 800 (2:13.58), 1,600 ( 5:17.61) and 3,200 (11:49.35) to lead her team to a runner-up second place team finish in the Division 2 meet. Homer won the team title with 107 points. Mullin, who will run for Gonzaga this fall, finished her prep career as a four-time state 800 and 1,600 champion. She is also a three-time 3,200 state champion. She ended her prep career with 11 state track titles. Tri-Valley junior Taylor Eddington also had a standout meet as she was named the D2 female athlete of the meet with wins in the 200 (26.17), 300 hurdles (45.10) and was second in the 400 (59.99) and 100 (12.90) The Sitka boys repeated as the D2 state champions with 94 points. Junior Calder Prussian had a strong showing for Sitka in the sprints, winning the 200 (22.96), and finishing runner-up in the 100 (11.32) and 400 (51.36). Grace Christian senior Robbie Annett was named the male athlete of the meet as he captured the 800 (1:55.91), 1,600 (4:22.89) and 3,200 (9:47.95). The Chugiak girls defended the Division 1 title putting up 107 points. Senior Alliyah Fields, who was named the female athlete of the meet, claimed the 400 (57.85), 800 (2:16.03) and ran on the winning 4x400 relay (4:03.30). The boys Division 1 team race ended in a tie with both Chugiak and Soldotna scoring 72 points. Soldotna won the final event on the track— the 4x400 — in a time of 3:28.87 to earn its share of the title. Distance star Nick Iverson of Juneau-Douglas won the 800 (1:57.57) and 1,600 (4:22.29). Iverson will run at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in the fall.
