National High School Records Through the Years DyeStat Photo by John Nepolitan Girls Outdoor Record – Heptathlon Anna Hall (Valor Christian High School, Highlands Ranch, Colorado) Performance – 5,829 points Date – July 20-21, 2019 Place – San Jose, Costa Rica Meet – Pan Am U20 Championships Previous Record – 5,798 by Hall May 31-June 1 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico By the time Hall arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica (elevation 1,160 meters) six years ago this week, to represent the United States in the Pan-Am Juniors, the 18-year-old senior was already a star. She had won the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and long jump at the Colorado state meet, and held the HSRs in the indoor pentathlon and the outdoor heptathlon. Just for good measure, before enrolling at the University of Georgia, she raised the heptathlon record a few points. Her final official score was 5,847, but for record purposes, because her best long jump had excessive aiding wind, her total became 5,829, which remains the record to this day and is some 250 points better than the next-best high school score. Hall’s breakdown was 14.11A 100H, 5-11 ½ HJ, 41-1 ½ SP, 24.22A 200, 18-0 1/4/18-2 1/2w LJ, 110-7 jav and 2:10.11 800. She went on to win the NCAA hep for the University of Florida, medaled in two World Championships, raised her PR score to 7,032 and finished fifth in the Paris Olympics.
