WEST REGIONAL Humble Atascocita TX 82, Wayzata MN 64 Twins Mia and Mariah Maxwell won two events apiece to lead Humble Atascocita over Minnesota’s state champions. The Texas 6A runners-up had 1-2-3 sweeps of the 100 and 200. Mia clocked 11.04 for US#2 in the 100 and Mariah a wind-legal 22.93 in the 200. Other wins were by Mariah in the long jump, 19-7, and Mia in the triple, 42-7.75. Another Atascocita doubler was thrower Jayden Kimble, 45-1 and 165-11 (US#7). Atascocita won 4x100 and 4x200 relays in 44.40 and 1:33.69, both US#2. Wayzata had a couple of doublers, too: Maddie Gullickson, 4:44.54 in the 1,600 and 10:18.63 in the 3,200, and hurdler Jessica Haux, 14.51 and 43.40. Long Beach Wilson CA 87, American Fork UT 54 After a 63-point win in the first round, Long Beach Wilson advanced to the West semifinals by beating American Fork by 33. Wilson’s Kaylin Edwards won the 100 hurdles in 13.79 and 300 hurdles in a US#3 of 40.28. She was also on the team that won the 4x400 relay in 3:36.75 for US#2. Sophomore Shirayah Lewis-Williams ran 2:09.42 to lead a 1-2-3 sweep in the 800 by Wilson, which took the 4x800 relay in 8:58.70 for US#10. American Fork’s Cambria Hesler pierced the Californians’ sprint dominance by taking the 100 in 11.82 and 200 in 24.53. Chandler AZ 78, Papillion La Vista South NE 63 After opening with a three-point victory over Niwot CO, Chandler had a slightly easier dual against Nebraska’s state champions. Sniyah Cade scored another quadruple victory for Arizona’s state champions. She won the 100 and 200 in 11.70 and 23.79, and ran on the 4x100 relay that clocked 45.13 for US#8. She long jumped 19-4.50. Chandler’s Imani Galera-Young won the 100 and 300 hurdles in 13.69 and 41.50. Buchanan CA 81, Jesuit OR 60 Victoria Chatter won all three sprints, and California advanced a second team into the West semifinals. Buchanan outscored Jesuit 36-0 from 400 through 3,200, just as the Bears did in the first round against Bentonville AR. Chatter’s respective times were 11.62, 23.91 and 57.53. Buchanan also had a double winner in Sierra Cornett, who ran the 800 in 2:13.14 and 800 in 4:46.82. Jesuit’s doublers were hurdler Cameron Gatlin, 14.83 and 43.98, and horizontal jumper Iman Foster, 19-0.50 and 40-8. EAST REGIONAL Bullis MD 98, Homewood-Flossmoor IL 47 Bullis followed a 44-point win in the first round by beating Illinois’ state champions by 51. Bullis won all four relays, clocking a US#4 of 44.80 in the 4x100, another US#4 of 1:33.84 in the 4x200 and a US#1 of 3:33.30 in the 4x400 (No. 3 all-time). Bullis’ 4x400 featured Sydney Sutton, who ran US#3 of 22.70 in the 200 and US#2 of 51.23 in the 400. Payton Payne won the 100 in11.39 and teamed with hurdler Kassidy Hopkins (13.37) and Sutton in the 4x100. New Balance Nationals Outdoor champion Parker Coes, a Bullis freshman, took the long jump with 21-foot leap. Homewood-Flossmoor scored all but 11 of its points in outscoring Bullis 36-0 in the throws, high jump and pole vault. Bullis led 81-10 on the track. Hilliard Davidson OH 78, Blythewood SC 59 Lillian Larosa was a workhorse sprinter for Ohio’s state champions. She won the 100 in 11.86, and she finished second in both 200 and 400. Top three were separated by .03 in the 200, won by Blythewood’s Olivia Taylor in 24.44. Larosa was second in 24.45 and Blythewood sophomore Peyton Hightower third in 24.47. Hightower won the 400 over Larosa, 53.12 to 53.99. Hilliard Davidson’s Celia Schulte ran a US#10 of 2:04.65 in the 800 and took the 1,600 in 4:46.42. Another double winner was hurdler Anna Wile in 13.72 and 42.12. Carmel IN 81.5, Hoover AL 50.5 Balance is how to win this tournament, and Indiana’s state champion has that. Through two duals, Carmel has scored in 31 of 32 events (Hoover managed a 9-0 sweep in the pole vault). Carmel’s cross country state champions ran to a 27-0 sweep of the 800, 1,600 and 3,200, and won the 4x800 relay in a US#5 of 8:53.45. Distance winners were three different runners: Larkin Taylor, 2:12.25; Sadie Foley, 4:46.83; Annabel Pollert, 10:28.89. Freshman thrower Amyla Holder had winning distances of 38-1 and 128-3. Hoover’s Taylor Canada won an 11.74/24.14 sprint double. Union Catholic NJ 114, Tatnall DE 23 Union Catholic returned to the East semifinals with victories by 63 and 91 points. The Vikings won all 16 events against Delaware’s state champions, building an 80-12 margin on the track. Paige Sheppard’s times of 2:01.50 in the 800 and 4:32.10 in the 1,600 were national records for sophomores. Her 1,600 is US#2 (No. 4 in prep history), and her 800 is US#3. Taylor Aska won the 100 in 11.53 and 400 in 53.56. She was second to teammate Sydney Chadwick, 23.90 to 24.00, in the 200. Taylor Cox won the 100 hurdles in a US#4 of 13.18 and ran on the 4x200 relay that clocked a US#10 of 1:35.89. More news |
