Sophia Szolosi Runs Meet Record 17:02 In D2 Girls Race; Beavercreek Boys, Gahanna Lincoln Girls Win D1 Titles By Mary Albl of DyeStat The 2025 Ohio High School Athletic Association State Cross Country Championships unfolded Saturday at Fortress Obetz & Memorial Park, highlighted by a record-shattering performance in the Division 2 girls race. Athens senior Sophia Szolosi stole the show, defending her title with a blazing 17:02.5, a state met record for all divisions. The Duke commit finished nearly 50 seconds ahead of Hathaway Brown’s Anna Prusak (17:51.92), cementing her status as one of the top distance runners in the country. More history was made in the team race as the Columbus Bishop Watterson girls scored 158 points to win its first state title. Hathaway Brown was a close second (161 points). In the Division 2 boys race, Tippecanoe’s Landon Kimmel ran 15:12.7 for the win, followed by Anthony Wayne’s Jacob Proctor (15:28.74) and Grant Hamilton of Canal Winchester was third in 15:33.65. Lincoln reclaimed the state title after finishing second in 2024. Olentangy Liberty’s Elena Aldrink, a senior, won her first state title to win the Division 1 girls race in 17:25.90. Gahanna Lincoln won the team championship with with 81 points. Cincinnati St. Xavier’s Dom Ellis clocked 15:07.92 to win the D1 boy race. The team title was claimed by Beavercreek, a program’s first. The Division 3 boys produced the fastest time of the meet, as Fairless senior Brice Fuller broke the 15-minute barrier and set a meet record with 14:52.76, winning by more than 20 seconds. The Woodridge boys won the team title. On the girls side, Marlington’s Irelyn Johnson became the school’s first girls individual state champion, crossing the line in 18:10.89. The team title went to Oakwood with 71 points, also the program’s first. In the first race of the meet, Division 4, Ansonia’s Bennett Lehman captured the boys title in 15:17.91, edging Rittman’s Luke Snyder (15:24.05). Smithville’s Kaitlyn Carr dominated wire-to-wire to win in 17:29.19, well ahead of Heartland Christian’s Rebecca Geiss (18:11.81). The Convoy Crestview boys and the Ottawa Hills girls were both first time state champions.
