New Mexico State Meet XC Recap 2025Published by
Carmen Dorsey-Spitz, Gianna Rahmer Run Exceptional Times By Mary Albl of DyeStat On a day loaded with big names and defending champions, it was Moriarty junior Carmen Dorsey-Spitz who delivered the loudest mark at the 2025 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico State Cross Country Championships held Saturday, Nov. 8 at Albuquerque Academy. Racing alone off the front in the Class 4A girls race, Dorsey-Spitz charged through the rolling Albuquerque Academy layout in 16:57.9, the fastest performance of the meet and another benchmark in what has quickly become one of Southwest's premier resumes. Her run came just weeks after she lowered the course record at the Academy Extravaganza and again put her in the same conversation as Eldorado sophomore superstar Gianna Rahmer. Dorsey-Spitz, who is No. 28 in the latest DyeStat rankings, is now headed to Nike Cross Regionals Southwest later this month. Led by Ensley Jorgenson (18:47.6) Los Alamos went 4-5-6-7-8 to dominate the 4A race with 29 points. The Albuquerque Academy boys returned to the top of the 4A with 36 points, riding a flawless senior season from Nicholas Ponte, who closed out his prep cross country career with a 15:18.8 win and an undefeated in-state campaign. Los Alamos (56) and St. Pius X (94) rounded out the podium. The 5A girls race was once again headlined by Rahmer. The Eldorado sophomore rolled to a time of 17:02.2, securing her third consecutive 5A crown and the second-fastest girls time of the meet. As a team, Eldorado placed three in the top 9 to outlast Cleveland 50–56 to defend its state title. In 5A boys action, Cleveland senior Lucas Espinosa uncorked the race of his career, surging clear to win in 15:13.7 and lead Cleveland to the team title with 36 points, ahead of Rio Rancho (61) and La Cueva (118). In girls 3A, Santa Fe Prep put on a clinic, scoring 29 points with four runners in the top eight to win comfortably over Cottonwood Classical (96) and East Mountain (98). Sophie Bair claimed the individual title in 18:56.7, with teammate Pippa Barrett runner-up. Elijah England of Navajo Prep struck gold in 15:34.2, but the team battle for 3A tilted to Santa Fe Indian School, whose balance through five earned a 46–53 edge over Navajo Prep. In boys A-2A, Laguna Acoma’s Tagoya Pedro defended his title in 15:35.2, but the team championship belonged to Pecos, which stacked enough scorers up front to total 46 points, ahead of Oak Grove (69) and Laguna Acoma (100). It marks three titles in four years for Pecos. The Oak Grove Classical girls captured its first state team title with 59 points, led by three-time champion Olivia Marquez, who won in 20:06.6. Pecos (90) and McCurdy (118) followed.
