National High School Records Through the Years Boys Indoor Record – 50-yard dash Andre Cason (Green Run HS, Virginia Beach) Performance – 5.43 seconds Date – December 14, 1985 Place – Williamsburg, Virginia Meet – Holiday Invitational Previous Record - Equaled record held by two other Virginians, Attell Simpson (Ferguson, Newport News) in 1978 and Martin Smith (JHW, Richmond) in 1980 Cason edged Denbigh’s Robert Foster by a hundredth to claim a piece of a record that remains to this day, 40 years ago, shared with two other Virginians. He went on to an excellent career as an open runner, winning the World indoor 60 meters in 1991, finishing second in the World Championships 100 in 1993, and running on world-championship 4x100 teams for the U.S., in 1991 and 1993, setting the world record in 1991.
