Wilson Opens Season With PR In The 55 Dash, 11th-Fastest All-Time 500 By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor RunnerSpace Photo A sparkling debut by Bullis MD freshman Mya Arrendell grabbed at least a co-starring role with the team's Olympian on Saturday evening at the Jim Mitchell Invitational at The Armory. Arrendell, one of the fastest eigth graders in the country last spring, broke Kayla Davis' freshman class national record in the 300 meters when she ran 37.42 seconds to win the invitational section of the event. Arrendell's time moved her to No. 13 on the all-time high school list. Arrendell has outdoor PRs of 23.21 in the 200 meters and 52.99 in the 400. In the invitational 55-meter dash, Laura Fiegel of St. James Academy VA ran a US#1 time of 6.91 and held off Arrendell, who was second with US#2 6.92. Fiegel also won the 200 meters in 23.92. Senior Quincy Wilson, racing in his season opener, ran the 11th-fastest time in history in the 500 meters, 1:02.05, to win that event. He ran a bit faster, 1:01.27, last January. Wilson,a Paris Olympian and gold medalist who recently signed with the University of Maryland, also flashed some speed in the 55 with a PR time of 6.34 seconds for US#2. It was the first time Wilson has competed in a straightaway sprint indoors since his freshman year. Wilson only ran in the prelim. His teammate, Cameron Homer won the event in 6.36 for US#3 and Alex Guthrie of South Lakes VA ran 6.38 for US#6. Homer also won the invitational boys 300 meters in 33.92. Brenan McCabe of Immaculate CT ran a time of 1:23.32 to win the boys 600 meters. Luke Beattie from Warwick Valley NY jumped a US#1 height of 17-1.25 to win the boys pole vault and also won the 200 meters in 22.22 seconds. Adriana Pettinelli of Scarsdale NY won a competitive girls 1,000 meters with a US#2 time of 2:50.70. Caroline Elliott of South Lakes VA was second in US#4 2:51.58. Aya Ryan of South Lakes VA won the girls 600 meters in a US#6 time of 1:35.02. Elliott and Ryan are both returning members of South Lake's Nike Outdoor Nationals distance medley relay championship team. Kassidy Hopkins of Bullis achieved a new US#1 in the 55-meter hurdles with 7.67 seconds. Teammate Solai Russell was second in 8.10 for US#5. In the girls high jump, Ella Michelitch of Minisink Valley VA cleared 5-foot-10 to match the US#1 height. More news |
