Preview: High Quality Sprints Highlight AAU Indoor Nationals

Pole Vaulter Victor Olesen, Elite Dash Showdown Between Jonas Haygood And Peyton Trammer, Set For Virginia Beach

Championship season for Virginia pole vaulter Victor Olesen begins this weekend at the AAU Indoor Championships at Virginia Beach, where he is the two-time defending champion. 

The past two years, Olesen has competed at the AAU nationals before moving on to Nike Indoor Nationals and then adidas Indoor Nationals. 

This winter, Olesen is tied for US#2 with a clearance at 17-4.50. The senior from the Xtreme Heights vaulting club owns an outdoor best of 18 feet from last year.

The AAU Indoor Nationals draws athletes from 6 to 18 and is sprints heavy. 

One of the best matchups of the weekend features Jonas Haygood of Run U Xpress, one of the top sprinters in North Carolina, racing Peyton Trammer of Track Life University (Michigan) in the 60 and the 200. 

Haygood is US#2 in the 60 meters with a best of 6.63, which he ran at the VA Showcase, and Trammer is US#5 with a time of 6.68. 

In the 200, Trammer has run 21.51 and Haygood has gone 21.70. 

The top entry in the boys 400 is Dennis Jackson from Track Life University, who ran 48.09 on Feb. 21. 

Samuel Fatovic of Next Generation Defenders (Salisbury NC) tops the entries in the boys 800 meters. He was second in the NCHSAA Class 4A 500 meters final. 

In the field events, Lamont Mayo of Commonwealth Throws Club (Varina VA) is at the top of the shot put entries and owns a best of 61-1.50. 

Caius Shakes of Alief Clover Track and Field (Alief Elsik TX) leads the high jump entries at 6-8.75. 

Sebastian Pla from Legacy Track (Tuscarora VA), the Virginia Class 4 indoor champion in the long jump and triple jump, is in both events. 

Aubrey Wilson of Michigan Accelerators is US#8 in the girls 60 meters with 7.37 and she's entered in that event plus the 200. 

Eighth grader Rhyan Sproles of West Coast Elite is making a trip out from California and has a best of 7.50w from an outdoor meet on Feb. 13. She tops the entries for the 14-year-olds. 

Sadie Bates of Optimize TC (Georgia) leads the field in the 400 meters with 55.80. 

Nia Armstrong from VAST Track and Field (Florida) has run 8.40 in the 60-meter hurdles and is the top entry in the age 16 category. 

Danica McCarron (Cary Academy NC) is US#8 in the girls pole vault with a best of 13-4. 

Marley Duplessis of New Orleans Metro Stars (Louisiana) is the top triple jumper in the field at 39-9.50.

Armani Chance of Global Transitions Academy (Virginia) comes into the meet as the only 20-foot long jumper in the field.

Kalliah Boddie, a 12-year-old from Maryland, is one of the fastest distance runners in the meet and owns a 3,000 meters best of 10:23.95.
