ARCADIA, Calif. -- The first invitational race of the Saturday evening session at the Arcadia Invitational set the tone for the rest of the night and it was electric.

Rosary CA ran a flawless 4x100 relay in a time of 44.23 seconds, just ahead of Calabassas CA, which ran 44.54. Bullis School MD was third in 44.82.

Rosary's time smashed a 22-year-old California state record held by Long Beach Poly (44.50). Only Lancaster TX has run faster in prep history and has done that three times in the past year.

Freshman Mya Arrendell of Bullis quickly let go of the loss in the 4x100 relay and became one of the biggest stories of the night by winning the 100 meters in 11.27w and also the 200 meters in 23.17w. Roosevelt OR senior Aster Jones was second in both (11.31/23.47).

Arrendell wasn't finished. She carried the baton for Bullis on the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay and outkicked Union Catholic's Paige Sheppard to win the race in a meet record time of 3:38.72.

Sheppard, a bit earlier, won a back-and-forth 800 meters matchup with Braelyn Combe of Santiago (Corona) CA, 2:05.07 to 2:05.12. Combe went by Sheppard coming off the final turn and was unable to hold the lead in the final 30 meters.

Chiara Dailey of La Jolla CA completed a four-year effort to win an invitational event at Arcadia when she won the mile in a time of 4:41.12.

Abigail Hennessy from Westford Academy MA ran away from the field in the invitational 3,200 meters to win in a time of 9:50.84. Ruby Ihmels from Century ND was second in 9:59.06.

Jaslene Massey from Aliso Niguel CA won a dominant throws double. She threw and outdoor personal best of 53-2 to win the shot put and then won the discus with 182-2.

J Serra Catholic CA won the Distance Medley Relay in 11:52.42, just ahead of Oaks Christian (11:52.76).

Rebekah-Jhade Garrett of North Canyon AZ blitzed through the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 13.39w. Another Arizonan, Imani Galera-Young of Chandler was second in 13.62.

In the 300 hurdles, sophomore Kaayliyah Lacy of San Jacinto Valley Academy CA enjoyed a breakout performance. She defeated Arkansas recruit and New Jersey standout Natalie Dumas of Eastern Regional, 40.81 to 41.89.
