Texas senior Chanel Brissett, who won the NCAA Division 1 indoor 60-meter hurdles and outdoor 4x100-meter relay championships during her time at USC, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss making her Longhorns' debut Jan. 22 at the Wooo Pig Classic and running 8.07 seconds, the fastest collegiate 60 hurdles time in the country this season, at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. Brissett shares how meaningful it was to be competing with her new teammates for the first time after transferring schools in June following graduation from USC in three years to enter the McCombs School of Business in Austin. She revisits what it was like to be racing side by side in the 60 hurdles final against former USC teammate Mecca McGlaston, who ran 8.08. Brissett expresses gratitude for being able to participate after an abnormal buildup to the event in the week ahead, and was thankful to have gotten the opportunity to race twice in the 60 hurdles, as well as the 200 meters. She projects Texas as potential podium contenders at the Division 1 Indoor Championships in March, with Brissett's collegiate-leading 60 hurdles mark being supported by Julien Alfred, Kevona Davis, Tara Davis, Kynnedy Flannel and Kennedy Simon all ranking in the top 10 nationally in their respective events, in addition to the Longhorns ranking sixth in the 4x400-meter relay. Brissett speaks about her relationship with coach Edrick Floreal and her opportunity to become a better technical hurdler under his guidance. She also analyzes how much she has learned from training with professional athletes Keni Harrison, Jenna Prandini and Kori Carter, who are also coached by Floreal. Brissett reflects on the challenges she has faced of completing a two-year graduate program in one year, and how difficult learning coding has been. She also reveals about an upcoming meeting with Microsoft and how she hopes to best apply what she has learned in Austin in the business sector in the future.
