Arkansas junior All-American Lauren Gregory, the collegiate leader in the indoor mile and 3,000 meters as well as No. 2 in the 5,000 meters, in addition to being ranked in the top four in the United States and top 11 in the world in all three events this year, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the Razorbacks' exceptional distance depth this winter and their quest to win an NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championship in March at their home arena, Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville. Gregory revisits the fall cross country season and her fourth-place finish at the Southeastern Conference Championships, and how her consistency in both training and racing helped build confidence for the winter indoor season. She speaks about the benefits and comforts of having five regular-season events, including the Arkansas Qualifier on Feb. 5 as well as the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 12-13, all at home, in addition to the SEC Championships on Feb. 25-27 and the NCAA Championships on March 11-13 being held at Randal Tyson. Gregory examines the impact of Clemson transfer Logan Morris and her leadership with the Razorbacks' lineup, along with the maturity of the new freshmen on the roster, led by Taylor Ewert and Corie Smith. She analyzes Arkansas' strengths in the 400 meters and 4x400 relay, as well as in the mile, 3,000 and 5,000, and how it could lead to a memorable distance medley relay in the postseason. Gregory, who has run 4:35.69 in the mile, 9:01.44 in the 3,000 and 15:36.51 in the 5,000, talks about not having the pressure of being the only Arkansas athlete in each event, with the Razorbacks boasting eight of the top 30 athletes in Division 1 in the mile, seven of the top 30 in the 3,000 and six of the top 15 in the 5,000. She expresses gratitude for coach Lance Harter outlining the primary team goal of winning the national indoor track and field title, then focusing on the Division 1 Cross Country Championships on March 15 in Stillwater, Okla. Gregory reflects on her time living in a tent for three months during the summer, contributing to regenerative agriculture projects in Colorado. She also outlines her academic pursuits of earning a degree in biological engineering, with a minor in Spanish.
