Reebok Boston Track Club professional athlete Josette Norris, an All-American in the women's outdoor 5,000 meters at Georgetown, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss returning to the JDL Fast Track for the first time since 2016 to compete in the elite women's mile at the Camel City Invitational, scheduled for Feb. 19-20 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Norris revisits her personal-best 4:31.39 in the indoor mile Feb. 1 at the Virginia Beach Invitational, which has her ranked No. 5 among American competitors and sixth overall in the world this year on any indoor surface. She reflects on her previous appearance at the Camel City Invitational, anchoring the North Carolina distance medley relay to a second-place finish five years ago. Norris expresses gratitude to JDL Fast Track facility director Craig Longhurst for being able to keep the annual event on the calendar during such a unique and unpredictable season, and the importance of opportunities for professional athletes to face elite competition, in addition to college student-athletes having the chance to pursue NCAA qualifying marks for the  Division 1 and Division 2 indoor championship meets in March. She examines her transition as a post-collegiate athlete to working with coach Chris Fox and her Reebok Boston Track Club teammates in Virginia, and how much inspiration has been gained based on the group's success at the Marathon Project in December in Arizona, which has carried over to the indoor season, with her mile effort in Virginia Beach, along with the performances Feb. 13 of Justyn Knight and Amy-Eloise Markovc at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Staten Island, N.Y. Norris reminisces about the highlight of her 2020, celebrating an October engagement to former NCAA Division 1 and U.S. national champion Robby Andrews in the Georgetown area, along with having an opportunity to train at altitude with him for five weeks in December in Flagstaff, Ariz. She also looks ahead to competing Feb. 27 in the 5,000 at the Texas Qualifier in Austin, looking to improve on her personal-best 15:29.34.
