Michael Bergmann joins DyeStat editor Doug Binder to discuss last week's successful opening of the Deschutes River Athletic Complex in Maupin, Ore. South Wasco County High managed to host its first track meet since the 1970s, the Class 1A Special District 3 meet, a state qualifier for small schools in central and eastern Oregon and also a few in Washington. Bergmann discusses how the dream of a state-of-the-art track with Beynon surface in Maupin, with a view of the Deschutes River Canyon, came to be. As late as 48 hours before the start of the meet, the final stripes and marks on the track were painted onto the surface. The athletes in attendance, many of whom do not have 400-meter tracks to train on, achieved 165 personal-best performances.
