Moore OK Training Group Hit By Vehicle By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor There is unspeakably sad news to report out of Oklahoma, where the driver of a truck ran into a group of track/cross country runners Monday, killing three students and gravely injuring three more. Three of the students struck were female and three were male. Additional details of the incident can be found at NBC News. Senior Rachel Freeman, who placed 68th at the Oklahoma Class 6A cross country championships in November and helped her team to a sixth-place finish, was killed at the scene. A second runner, identified as Yuridia Martinez, died at the hospital. UPDATE (2/16) - A third runner, Kolby Crum, also has died. The driver fled the scene before he was arrested. The suspect had lost a son in another traffic accident one day prior. In a message posted to Facebook, the school superintendent wrote: "Our hearts are heavy in Moore Public Schools as we process this tragedy that is unbearable to comprehend. While members of the Moore High School (MHS) Cross Country/Track team were running on the sidewalk, six of them were violently struck by a vehicle." Moore is a suburb south of Oklahoma City. We at DyeStat send our deepest condolences to Moore High School, the families deeply affected, and the greater Oklahoma running community. More news |
