Hana Moll of Capital High in Washington, representing Northwest Pole Vault Club, began the year in impressive fashion Saturday at the 13th edition of the EXPO Explosion, producing the No. 2 all-time high school and American Under-20 indoor mark and the top clearance ever by a prep junior with her third-attempt effort of 14 feet, 7.25 inches (4.45m) in the girls elite high school section at the EXPO Dome in Belton, Texas.

Hana Moll matched the No. 5 absolute competitor in U.S. prep history, equaling the sophomore all-time mark of her twin sister Amanda Moll achieved outdoors June 6 at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in California. Amanda Moll cleared 13-7.25 (4.15m), but missed Saturday at 14-1.25 (4.30m).

The Moll sisters have now surpassed Lexi Jacobus and Tori Hoggard – who competed as the Weeks twins at Cabot High in Arkansas – as the most accomplished female siblings ever to vault at the prep level.

Jacobus cleared 14-7.50 (4.46m) in 2015, with Hoggard achieving a mark of 14-4 (4.37m) that same year.

Hana Moll trails only the national prep and American Under-20 indoor records of former Northwest Pole Vault Club standout and West Seattle High graduate Chloe Cunliffe, who cleared 14-9 (4.50m) in 2019. She also equaled the No. 15 indoor clearance in World Under-20 history and elevated into the top 50 among American all-time indoor competitors.

Hana Moll, who was being coached by Erica Fraley and using borrowed poles throughout the competition courtesy of Bay Area Pole Vault Academy coach Glenn Colivas, was unsuccessful in attempting 14-9.25 (4.50m).

Paige Sommers, a recent graduate of Westlake High in California now competing as a freshman at Duke, set the national prep outdoor mark of 14-9 on May 26 at the Marmonte League final at Westlake High.

Sommers had produced the top absolute mark by a junior when she cleared 14-6 (4.42m) at the Thousand Oaks Invitational on Feb. 22, 2020.

The previous national junior class indoor record of 14-1.25 (4.29m) was established in 2018 by Erica Ellis of Gates-Chili High in New York.

Under the guidance of coach Tim Reilly, Northwest Pole Vault Club has now produced three of the top seven prep vaulters to clear at least 14-7.25 with Cunliffe and the Moll sisters.

Sommers, Jacobus, Leah Pasqualetti of Orchard Park High in New York and Desiree Freier of Northwest High in Texas are the others.
