Loxsom takes down Korir’s 600 mark

Eight days after UTEP freshman produces global standard, former Nittany Lions star establishes all-time world best at Penn State National, with Harris setting collegiate record

The indoor 600-meter world standard belonging to Germany’s Nico Motchebon stood for nearly 18 years.

The new global best established by UTEP freshman Emmanuel Korir held up for only eight days.

Former Penn State star Casimir Loxsom and Nittany Lions sophomore standout Isaiah Harris both eclipsed the mark established Jan. 20 by Korir with their performances Saturday at The Penn State National at Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

Loxsom, representing Brooks Beasts, clocked 1 minute, 14.91 seconds, with Harris finishing in 1:14.96 to dip under Korir’s 1:14.97 from New Mexico’s Cherry and Silver Invitational.

Loxsom had set the American record of 1:15.33 in March 2015, with Harris taking over as the all-time collegiate leader.

Just like with Korir’s performance, Loxsom’s effort is not considered a world record since the 600 is not recognized as an official IAAF indoor event.
