Sam Worley Finds Success Moving Down In DistancePublished by
After Finishing Second in the 3,200 Meters at State, Sam Worley Turns Focus on 800 MetersBy Adam Kopet, DyeStat Editor A year ago, Sam Worley finished second in the 3,200 meters at the Texas UIL 6A State Championships to Southlake Carroll's Reed Brown. Now a senior at Canyon TX, Worley and his coaches have decided to focus on shorter distances in his final high school season, according to David Hinojosa of My San Antonio. The decision was not made until earlier this season after Worley ran 1:50.43 in a meet at Boerne TX. That is the leading time in Texas and currently stands as a US#3 mark. Since that time, the University of Texas-bound Worley has gone undefeated, including a mile win over Brown and 2012 Olympic silver medalist Leo Manzano at the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, finishing in 4:00.61. Despite the change in race distance, Worley's goals remain the same. He wants to win races and capture state titles. He is the defending champion in the 1,600 meters at the Texas UIL 6A State Championships. This year, he wants to win two titles. After running 1:51.69 and 4:11.61 in an 800- and 1,600-meter double at the UIL 6A Area 27/28 Meet, Worley is in a good position to add two more state titles to his collection. More news |
