Josh Hoey Smashes High School Record in the 800 Meters at BU Last Chance MeetPublished by
Hoey runs 1:47.67 to smash prep record in the 800 By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Josh Hoey obliterated Robby Andrews' 2009 high school national record in the 800 meters on Sunday, running 1:47.67 at the Boston University Last Chance Meet. Hoey, who attends Bishop Shanahan PA, matched the sixth-fastest prep 800 of all-time while running indoors. No high school athlete had ever broken 1:49 in the 800 meters indoors, let alone 1:48. Andrews ran 1:49.21 to break the record when he won the National Scholastic title in 2009. Hoey, who finished second behind Christian Harrison of the B.A.A. (1:46.83), was competing against college athletes and other older club runners. He didn't represent his school. Instead, his affiliation was listed as Hoey Investments. Earier this month, Hoey used a late kick to win the NYRR Millrose Games high school boys mile in 4:07.42. Also at BU on Sunday, Brodey Hasty came up a few seconds short in his third bid to try and break the sub-four barrier in the mile. Hasty ran 4:04.98. Hoey and Hasty are both committed to the University of Oregon. More news |
