Clarence Munyai Runs Fast 200 Meters at South African ChampionshipsBy Adam Kopet Clarence Munyai broke Wayde Van Niekerk's 200-meter South African record Friday at the South African Championships, according to Sport24. Munyai, 20, ran 19.69 in the semifinals, bettering Van Niekerk's record of 19.84. The African record stands at 19.68. The South African Championships are being held in Pretoria, which sits at just over 4,000 feet of elevation. Munyai finished fourth in the 200 at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships. However, he has struggled on the senior circuit, failing to qualify out of his first round at the 2016 Olympics and being disqualified in the first round of the 2017 IAAF World Outdoor Championships. Van Niekerk did not compete at the South African Championships. He is still recovering from a torn ACL he sustained last fall. More news |
