Top Distance and Marathon Performances Highlight This Week's Performance of the Week ListThis week saw two major marathons in the Boston Marathon and the London Marathon. We also saw a collegiate record and high school sophomore class record. In all, eight of this week's top performances were at 1,500 meters or longer. Sean Burrell: The high school sophomore from Zachary LA had a big day at the LHSAA District 4-5A Championships, running a US#5 20.77 for 200 meters, a US#2 45.88 for 400 meters, 14.61 for 110-meter hurdles and he ran a leg on a 4x100 relay that finished in 41.32. Mariah Castillo: The high school senior from Saugus CA won the mile at the Mt. SAC Relays in a US#1 4:45.24, booking her ticket to the Brooks PR Invitational. Vivian Cheruiyot: The Kenyan distance runner won the London Marathon in her second career marathon, finishing in 2:18:31, making her the fourth-fastest performer of all-time. Katelynne Hart: The high school sophomore from Glenbard West IL broke the sophomore class record in the 3,200 meters at the Sue Pariseau Invitational, running 9:52.02. Dustin Horter: The high school senior from Dakota East OH ran a US#1 8:48.62 for 3,200 meters at the Eastern Relays in a race that saw five boys break nine minutes. Yuki Kawauchi: The distance runner from Japan overcame cold, wet and windy conditions to win the Boston Marathon in 2:15:58, his 79th sub-2:20:00 marathon. Josh Kerr: The New Mexico junior won the 1,500 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational in a collegiate-record 3:35.01.The former record was set in 1981. Eliud Kipchoge: The Kenyan distance runner outlasted the field and the heat to win the London Marathon in 2:04:17. His win also gave him the Abbott World Marathon Majors Series XI title. Desiree Linden: The American distance runner became the first U.S. woman to win the Boston Marathon in 33 years with her 2018 win, running 2:39:54. This was her first marathon win. Twanisha Terry: The USC freshman won the 100 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays in a wind-legal 10.99. That ties her for 10th on the collegiate all-time performer list and equals No. 4 in World U20 history. More news |
