Mutaz Essa Barshim Ends His Season After Ankle Injury

Mutaz Essa Barshim, the high jumper from Qatar, has decided to end his season after sustaining an ankle injury at the Gyulai István Memorial in Hungary, according to a statement through JRS Sports Management.

Barshim equaled his season best and world lead last week, clearing 7-10.50 (2.40m). He then raised the bar to a world-record 8-0.75 (2.46m),

Barshim took three attempts at the world-record bar, making solid attempts. But on his third jump, he injured his ankle. He was initially expected to miss several weeks. However, it has been decided surgery is his best option.
