Ronnie Baker, Colleen Quigley and Steven Gardiner Impress in Chorzow, PolandBy Adam Kopet Ronnie Baker won the 100 meters Wednesday at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Chorzow, Poland, running a world-leading and personal best 9.87 seconds. The race, which took place in nearly still conditions, was a blowout for Baker. Michael Rodgers finished second in 10.10. Finishing third was the reigning IAAF World Outdoor champion over 200 meters, Ramil Guliyev of Turkey, in 10.21. The women's 1,500 meters might not have been as fast as many of the Diamond League races this year, but Colleen Quigley, best known for the steeplechase, ran a personal-best 4:03.02 to win. That ranks her fourth on the 2018 American performance list behind Brenda Martinez, Jenny Simpson and Quigley's Bowerman Track Club teammate Shelby Houlihan. The men's 400 meters featured Steven Gardiner of the Bahamas, who had not raced since early June when he injured himself in the 200 meters in Stockholm. Gardiner won the 400 in Chorzow, running 44.43. He won by nearly a second over Poland's Karol Zalewski, who finished in 45.32. Christian Taylor finished third in 45.34. More news |
