Galen Rupp Will Miss Spring Marathon After Undergoing SurgeryPublished by
Galen Rupp Undergoes SurgeryBy Adam Kopet Galen Rupp will not be running a spring marathon after undergoing foot surgery, according to Ken Goe of the Oregonian. Rupp suffers from a condition known as Haglund's deformity, a bony bump on the heel that was causing Rupp Achilles tendon issues. After finishing fifth at the Chicago Marathon in 2:06:21, it was discovered there were two partial tears in his Achilles tendon. Rupp expects to be in a cast for the next month and a walking boot after that. His return to running will have to wait at least three months. That recovery will prevent Rupp from racing a spring marathon. He may be able to return to racing action by summer, possibly competing on the track as he prepares for a fall marathon. For a complete description of Rupp's injury and for statements by Rupp's doctor, please see Goe's Oregonian article. More news |
