Top-Ranked Loudoun Valley Punches Return Ticket To NXN By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Top-ranked Loudoun Valley VA (Jungle TC) showed that it might be in position to one-up itself at next weekend's Nike Cross Nationals. On Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., the reigning NXN champs put six runners across the finish line under 15:45 and won the NXR Southeast title with 52 points. That's 20 points lower than the team ran last year at the regional meet. Loudoun Valley will be joined by The Bolles School of Florida (Duval) as automatic boys teams qualifiers for the second straight year. Charles Hicks, of Bolles, third a year ago, won the boys championship race in 15:04.5 and led his team to second place with 117 points. Loudoun Valley teammates Sam Affolder and Jacob Hunter crossed the finish line together in 15:14.4 for second and third place. The girls championship was a battle, as expected. Lawton Chiles FL (Wolfpack Distance Club) edged out Blacksburg VA 156 to 159 as those two teams locked down the two automatic berths to NXN. Hidden Valley VA (Roanoke) was third with 199 points. Individually, Sasha Neglia of Dobyns-Bennett TN moved up one spot from 2017 and claimed the girls championship race victory with 17:37.4. She will return to NXN, where she finished 24th last year. Tsion Yared of Pine Crest FL was second in 17:44.7 and will return to NXN after making it in 2016 and missing it in 2017. More news |
