The Top 30, 11/29

This week (Previous)

(1). Katelyn Tuohy, junior, North Rockland NY: She can join Sarah Baxter (2011-12) as a repeat champion at NXN on Saturday and no one seems capable of stopping her.

(3). Kelsey Chmiel, senior, Saratoga Springs NY: She has finished top five at NXN three years in a row.

(17). Sydney Masciarelli, sophomore, Marianapolis Prep CT: An impressive victory at Foot Locker Northeast suddenly makes her one to watch at Foot Locker in San Diego.

(4). Emily Covert, senior, Washburn MN: She is still undefeated after winning Foot Locker Midwest and might have the wheels to keep Tuohy within sight.

(2). Katelynne Hart, junior, Glenbard West IL: She was third at Foot Locker Midwest and has a big opportunity the next two weeks show what she can do on the national stage after fourth (NXN) and second (Foot Locker) last year.

(5). Ericka VanderLende, senior, Rockford MI: Fifth at Foot Locker Midwest was not an indication of what she's capable of. Look for her in the lead pack at both NXN and Foot Locker.

(7). London Culbreath, junior, McKinney TX: She is the Queen of the South, with wins at NXR South and Foot Locker South.

(9). Marlee Starliper, junior, Northern PA: She was second at Foot Locker Northeast.

(6). Grace Connolly, senior, Natick MA: She ran to third place at Foot Locker Northeast.

(8). Taylor Ewert, junior, Beavercreek OH: She was second at Foot Locker Midwest and certainly should finish higher than 10th at both national meets.

(10). Claire Walters, junior, Fayetteville-Manlius NY: She was second at NXR New York, where she beat Chmiel. She could give F-M a low number on Saturday.

(12). Sydney Thorvaldson, sophomore, Rawlins WY: The Wyoming champion won the NXR Northwest title by 14 seconds.

(NR). Riley Chamberlain, freshman, Del Oro CA: She ran the fastest time of the day at the California state meet (17:18.6) to win the Division 3 title.

(14). Tori Gaitan, junior, Great Oak CA: She won the CIF Division 1 title by seven seconds (17:19.4).

(11). Alex Morris, senior, Naperville North IL: She will try to help bring her team a championship on Saturday in Portland, then enjoy running for herself in San Diego.

(15). Abby VanderKooi, freshman, Muskegon Western Michigan Christian MI: She was fourth at Foot Locker Midwest.

(16) Grace Ping, sophomore, Cotter MN: She was seventh at Foot Locker Midwest.

(18). Kristin Fahy, senior, La Costa Canyon CA: She won the CIF Division 2 title.

(19). Anna Martin, junior, Lehi UT: The long wait for Foot Locker West is almost over.

(20). Adelyn Ackley, senior, Hart MI: She was sixth at Foot Locker Midwest.

(NR). Samantha Schadler, senior, Rio Rico AZ: She won NXR Southwest and looks to join older sister Allie as an NXN All-American.

(25). Brooke Rauber, sophomore, Tully NY: She was fourth at NXR New York.

(22). Abby Loveys, senior, Randolph NJ: She was fourth at Foot Locker Northeast.

(23). Tiahna Vladic, senior, Billings Senior MT: She placed second at NXR Northwest.

(NR). Kate Wiser, sophomore, Pomperaug CT: She won New Englands, then got fifth at Foot Locker Northeast.

(17). Ashlyn Hillyard, senior, Plano TX: A rough day at Foot Locker South resulted in 12th place, but she still has a chance to show what she can do at NXN.

(28). Meagen Lowe, senior, Buchanan CA: She finished second in the CIF Division 1 finals.

(27). Ella Borsheim, freshman, Bellarmine Prep WA: She won BorderClash.

(26). Valarie Lastra, junior, Mater Academy FL: She broke the state meet course record in Florida with 17:17 to win the Class 3A title.

(30). Katrina Schlenker, freshman, Batavia IL: She was fifth at Foot Locker Midwest.

I'm confused. Why is Claudia Lane still on the "Watch List"? She hasn't really raced since the beginning of the season, including the state or regional meets. Clearly she is still on the injured list. Unless there is something that you're aware of or that I've missed, it doesn't make sense that you would put her on this "Watch List," when there aren't any recent results to support this.

29. Valerie Lastra is misspelled. Why do people put a 2nd “a” in our name? :)

I am amazed at how overlooked the performances were of Masciarelli, Starliper, and Connolly at Footlocker Northeast as a whole!?!? At one of the most historical courses in the country these three ran the 4th, 5th, and 10th fastest times ever on this course! You gave Masciarelli the ranking she deserves, but undermined the other two performances. Don't be surprised when you see these three in the top five at Footlocker (and if these three race like they did in the Regional....you may be looking at 1,2, and 3)

Always great to see someone explode onto the scene. Sydney Masciarelli, did that in October. We'll see what the next step is.
