Tara Davis, who announced Dec. 7 she would be leaving the University of Georgia, had her appeal denied Tuesday by the school to allow her to compete for another NCAA Division 1 track and field program during the upcoming indoor and outdoor seasons after Bulldogs coach Petros Kyprianou decided not to release her to contribute for another team in 2019.

Davis contributed to the first NCAA Division 1 women's indoor team title for Georgia in March, along with helping the Bulldogs earn a runner-up finish to USC at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

A report had surfaced after Davis had left the school that she would be attending the University of Texas. Davis had to sign a scholarship aid form to allow her to be on the Austin campus during the NCAA dead period, but has confirmed she has not decided to attend Texas or any other university at this time, instead spending her break in state with family.

During her one year at Georgia, Davis set the World U-20 indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles by clocking 7.98 seconds March 9 at the NCAA semifinals. She went on to place sixth in the 60 hurdles final, along with third in the long jump, joining former teammates Kate Hall and Keturah Orji in sweeping the top three spots, the first time in championship history three long jumpers from the same program had achieved the feat.

Davis concluded her year by securing a bronze medal in the long jump in July at the IAAF World U-20 Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a leap of 20 feet, 10.50 inches (6.36m) in Tampere, Finland. Davis entered the competition as the World U-20 leader after capturing the title June 16 at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships in Bloomington, Ind., with a mark of 22-0.25 (6.71m).

It was the third career international meet at which Davis made the podium in at least one event, along with gold medals in the long jump and 4x100-meter relay and silver in the 100 hurdles at the 2017 Pan-Am U-20 Championships in Peru, as well as the gold medal in the long jump at the 2015 World Youth Championships in Colombia.

Davis, who set the national high school indoor record in the long jump with a leap of 21-11 (6.68m) during her senior year at Agoura CA, placed fifth in the long jump and 14th in the 100-meter hurdles in her debut at the Division 1 Outdoor final.
