Blake Haney Switches Allegiance to Canada After Representing U.S. Twice in International Competition

By Adam Kopet

The IAAF has approved Blake Haney's change of country allegiance from the U.S. to Canada. Haney will be able to represent Canada beginning July 10, 2019.

Haney, a redshirt senior at Oregon and seven-time All-American, has one season of outdoor track and field eligibility remaining. He holds personal bests of 3:39.07 for 1,500 meters and 3:58.70 for the mile.

Haney has competed for the U.S. twice internationally. He competed at the 2013 World Youth Championships and he competed at the 2015 Pan American U-20 Championships. He won the 1,500 title at the latter.

With the IAAF World Outdoor Championships not beginning until Sept. 27, the Canadian National Championships are scheduled for the end of July, meaning Haney will be eligible to compete for a spot on the Canadian World Championships team.
