Erik Sowinski Announces Seven Meets for His 2019 Indoor CampaignBy Adam Kopet Erik Sowinski, the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships bronze medalist at 800 meters, announced the seven meets he plans to compete in this winter on Twitter this week.
The middle-distance runner will open his season Saturday with a 600-meter race at the Dr. Sander Invitational in New York City at the Armory (there will be a live webcast on USATF.TV). Sowinski will then travel to Europe for meets in Karlsruhe, Germany, and Torun, Poland, before returning to the U.S. for the NYRR Millrose Games, where he is scheduled to race the 800 meters against a strong field, including Clayton Murphy, Michael Saruni, Donavan Brazier and Isaiah Harris. After Millrose, he will go back to Europe for meets in Athlone, Ireland, and Birmingham, United Kingdom, before once again returning to New York City, this time for the USATF Indoor Championships, where Sowinski will likely run the 600 meters. He won the 600 at the 2017 USATF Indoor Championships, running 1:15.07, which stands fifth on the world all-time list. All seven meets are scheduled to take place in the span of four weeks.
