Japanese Indoor Track Records Broken in BostonPublished by
National Records Fall at Boston UniversityBy Adam KopetTwo Japanese indoor track and field records fell Friday at the Valentine Invitational at Boston University. Riko Matsuzaki broke the women's 3,000-meter record and Hyuga Endo broke the men's 5,000-meter record. Matsuzaki finished third in the women's 3,000 meters, which was won by Yolanda Ngarambe of the Atlanta Track Club in 8:53.97. Matsuzaki crossed the line in 9:00.86, taking just over half a second off her national record. Endo also finished third, finishing behind Sean McGorty and Marc Scott of the Bowerman Track Club, with a time of 13:27.81. He broke the record held by the Nike Oregon Project's Suguru Osako by 0.19 seconds. McGorty and Scott both ran under the IAAF World Outdoor Championships standard of 13:22.00. Also breaking a national record was Canada's Jenna Westaway in the women's 1,000 meters. She ran 2:37.04 to take more than a second off the 16-year-old record. It was not a record, but Laura Roesler showed her return to form this year, breaking 2 minutes for 800 meters for the first time indoors. She won the race in 1:59.80. More news |
