Jakob Ingebrigtsen Tops Samuel Tefera In DusseldorfPublished by
By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Norwegian prodigy Jakob Ingebrigtsen surged past the brand new world record holder, Ethiopian Samuel Tefera, and won a high-profile 1,500 meters Wednesday at the Dusseldorf meeting on the IAAF World Indoor Tour. Ingebrigtsen, 18, ran 3:36.02 to break the World U-20 record as well as the meet record. Tefera, 19, moved with the two pace-setters and seemed to be set up perfect to win the race. Behind him, Jakob Ingebrigtsen and his older brother Filip closed down and prepared for a fast finish. Ingebrigtsen moved to Tefera's shoulder on the final backstretch and powered past in the final 30 meters to take the victory. Tefera ran 3:31.04 to edge out Yomif Kejelcha last Saturday in Birmingham, England. That performance surpassed Hicham El Guerrouj's 1997 world record. More news |
