Norwegian Phenom Jakob Ingebrigtsen Confirmed For IAAF World Cross Country Championships U-20 RacePublished by
Ingebrigtsen Entry Brings Intrigue To World XC Championships By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Norway's teen sensation, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, has decided to compete in the U-20 race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark this weekend. According to European Athletics, the 18-year-old European 1,500- and 5,000-meter champion will try to make some history as he tries to become the first medalist from Europe in the U-20 race since 1984. For decades, the race – and the meet itself – has been a showcase for East African talent and a stage for the fierce Kenya-Ethiopia team rivalry. American Dathan Ritzenhein (Rockford, Mich.) broke through with a bronze medal in the junior race at the 2001 World XC Championships in Belgium. “I have gone back and forth a little bit, but my shape is good and I want to run. I would not start at the World Cross Country Championships if I did not think that I could fight for the title. It's a tough World Cross Country Championships race but I'm ready,” Ingebrigtsen told Norsk Friidrett. More news |
