University of Georgia signee Matthew Boling continues to approach an all-time speed level on tracks across Texas.
Three weeks after running a wind-aided 10.20 seconds to win the the 100-meter dash March 30 at the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, the Strake Jesuit (Houston) senior lowered his best with a windy time of 10.11 at the UIL 6A Area 19/20 Meet.
Boling's 10.11 ranks 16th all-time for a prep athlete under any conditions.
"It was a good day," Boling said. "I was just working to advance, but it felt good. I knew it would be fast, 10.2 or lower. I know I can improve my start though, which was bad, but I transitioned well." In addition to the 100-meter performance, Boling picked up two more individual victories. He won the 200 (20.5w) and also the long jump, where he got a winning mark of 23-8 facing into the wind. To top it off, he anchored the 4x100 team to victory.
Boling leads the country in the long jump, with the 26-3.50 (8.01m) mark he achieved at Texas Relays. It was the longest jump by a prep in nine years.
With the state meet on the horizon in three weeks, he has lofty goals.
"My goal for the state meet is to win the team title and hopefully go 10.1 or lower in the 100," he said. More news |
