Tuohy Runs Fast 3,200 Meters At Red Raider Relays

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

North Rockland junior Katelyn Tuohy has run faster for 3,200 meters, but her effort in Thursday's Red Raider Relays is still notable.

Tuohy ran against the clock and covered eight laps in 9:53.30 to win the event by more than a minute. She also went six seconds faster than Katelynne Hart ran at the Arcadia Invitational, and took over the national lead.

Tuohy went through the mid-point in 4:50. Nancy Haggerty of the Journal News reported that she slowed in the second half of the race due to some tightness in her hamstring. (See below)

Tuohy's PR in the event is 9:47.88, which she ran at the Loucks Games last year. She also ran 9:51.05 for a full two miles at New Balance Nationals Indoor last month.

It's the fourth time in her career that she's run under 10 minutes in a 3,200 or 2-mile race.

Next week, Tuohy and her teammates are entered in the Distance Medley Relay at Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The NBNI champions expect a rematch with Fayetteville-Manlius NY, which finished second at the indoor championships.

Earlier this month, Tuohy reiterated her intention to stay committed to the North Rockland team through her senior year while she pursues her goal of qualifying for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials.
