Caster Semenya to Compete Over 2,000 Meters in FrancePublished by
Caster Semenya to Race 2,000 Meters in Montreuil, FranceBy Adam Kopet Before Caster Semenya races a world class field over 3,000 meters June 30 at the Prefontaine Classic, she will run a 2,000-meter race June 11 in Montreuil, France, a suburb of Paris, according to the Agence France-Presse. Due to Semenya's DSD (Differences of Sexual Development) status, the IAAF is requiring her and other DSD athletes to artificially suppress testosterone levels to a certain level to compete in events ranging from 400 meters up to the mile. Semenya has declared she will continue competing without taking testosterone suppressing medication. The two-time Olympic 800-meter champion from South Africa has primarily raced longer distances this year, even before the testosterone rules went into effect. She won the 5,000 meters at the South African Championships. Semenya has never raced at 2,000 meters before. However, she did run 3:59.92 for 1,500 meters last year. More news |
