Engels Runs 3:35.32 To Grab IAAF Standard

Craig Engels and Konstanze Klosterhalfen, both of the Nike Oregon Project, secured IAAF qualifying marks in the 1,500 meters on Sunday at the Portland Track Festival and Lewis & Clark College.

Engels, who parked his camper near the track and greeted fans, went under the 3:36.00 standard with a time of 3:35.32.

Klosterhalfen, a German star to trains in Portland, won the 1,500 meters in 4:03.30. She and second-place finisher Nikki Hiltz (4:05.56) both ran under the women’s standard of 4:06.50.

Shannon Rowbury (15:38.75) and Riley Masters (13:39.52) won the elite 5,000 meters races.

Marisa Howard from the RUJA/Idaho Distance Project ran a strong 9:41.50 to win the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Benard Keter of the U.S. Army won the men’s race in 8:29.94. Both locked down USATF qualifying times.

Josh Kerr of the Brooks Beasts won the men’s 800 meters in 1:46.06 as the top five finishers ran under the USATF standard.

Camas WA senior Daniel Maton ran US#1 1:49.69 to place ninth overall.

Lindsey Butterworth of New Balance clocked 2:02.27, just ahead of Justine Fedronic’s 2:02.99. Klosterhalfen also ran in the 800 and was seventh in 2:04.18.

Running in the open men’s 1,500 meter, Ashland OR junior Evan Holland ran a US#1 time of 3:46.59 and placed 21st overall in the event. That's the third-fastest in Oregon high school history behind Matthew Maton and Galen Rupp.

Sophomore Allie Janke from North Central WA won the girls mile in 4:47.96. Ahmed Ibrahim from Parkrose OR won the boys mile in 4:16.83.
