Pete Julian to Continue Coaching His Athletes from the Nike Oregon Project

By Adam Kopet

Pete Julian was an assistant coach with the Nike Oregon Project until it was dissolved by Nike following the four-year ban of head coach Alberto Salazar. He announced on social media this week that he will continue working with some of the Oregon Project athletes that he already held a coaching relationship with.

In the past several years, a division appeared in the Oregon Project in which some athletes primarily worked with Salazar and other athletes primarily worked with Julian. The athletes Julian was responsible for included Donavan Brazier, Shannon Rowbury, Konstanze Klosterhalfen, Craig Engels, Eric Jenkins, Suguru Osako and Jessica Hull.

Of those athletes, Brazier broke the 800-meter American record in winning the IAAF World Outdoor Championships. Klosterhalfen has broken numerous German records and Osako is the Japanese marathon record holder and is a likely member of the Japanese Olympic team in the marathon next year.

Julian's training group does not have a name right now, but could in the future. He may also add additional athletes to the group in the future.

I don’t regret one minute of my time with the NOP the past seven years. Every medal, championship, and record were the real deal. Not a single doubt in my mind. Love goes out to Alberto and his family and for those that have stood by their side through these past few years. For those that have stood by me and my family, I will never forget your unwavering kindness and support. You know what I’m about and where I come from. It’s time to move on. I have the great honor to coach Shannon, Eric, Suguru, Craig, Donavan, Koko and Jessica. Perhaps even a few more athletes in the future. Anyway, it’s a wonderful thing to have this “job” and I think it’s worth sharing a few photos along the journey. I hope it’s something you find authentic and real. We don’t have a team name or anything like that for now, but we’ve got each other and hopefully your support. So let’s go!
