Armand “Mondo” Duplantis took three more attempts Sunday at improving his own world record in the indoor pole vault at the All-Star Perche in Clermont Ferrand, France.

Although the Swedish star just missed on his final try at 20 feet, 3.75 inches (6.19m), he did make history by becoming the first vaulter in history with 6-meter clearances in five consecutive indoor meets.

Duplantis made 19-8.50 (6.01m) on his first attempt, prevailing against meet host Renaud Lavillenie at 19-5.75 (5.94m) and American indoor record holder Sam Kendricks at 19-3 (5.87m).

He immediately had the bar raised to 20-3.75, looking to surpass his Feb. 15 world record of 20-3.25 (6.18m) in Scotland.

Duplantis achieved his first world record Feb. 8 with a 20-2.75 (6.17m) clearance in Poland, eclipsing the 2014 indoor standard of 20-2.50 (6.16m) achieved by Lavillenie in Ukraine.

Duplantis, who also had clearances of 19-11 (6.07m) and 19-8.25 (6.00m) during his five-meet European tour, became the fifth different winner of the men’s competition founded in 2016 by former world indoor record holder Sergey Bubka and Lavillenie, who still holds the meet record from the inaugural edition at 19-9 (6.02m).

American Sandi Morris became the first two-time winner in event history, clearing 15-9 (4.80m) to win the women’s competition.

Morris, who won in 2017 with a 15-5.50 (4.71m) clearance, also took attempts at improving her own world lead to 16-2 (4.93m), but was unsuccessful at surpassing the 2018 meet record of 15-11.25 (4.86m) by fellow American Katie Nageotte.

Cuba’s Yarisley Silva and Slovenia’s Tina Sutej both cleared 15-6.50 (4.74m).

Morris also remained unbeaten in five meets during the winter season, including her third U.S. indoor title in five years Feb. 15 in Albuquerque, N.M., and a world-leading 16-1.25 (4.91m) clearance Feb. 8 at the 113th NYRR Millrose Games.

Morris became the sixth female vaulter in history, including the third American, to achieve four clearances of 15-9 or better in the same indoor season.

Jenn Suhr (2016) and authorized neutral athlete Anzhelika Sidorova (2019) are tied for the record with six each, with Russia’s Yelena Isinbayeva (2005 and 2007), Greece’s Katerina Stefanidi (2018) and Nageotte (2019) also producing four in the same season.
