David Kilgore Turns 100-Mile Run Into A Way To Help Front-Line Health WorkersPublished by
Kilgore Turns Miles Into Donations With Aim Of Supporting NYC Running Shoe Companies And Delivering Footwear To Nurses And Doctors By Todd Grasley for DyeStat David Kilgore is used to running long distances. A professional runner sponsored by On and living in New York City, Kilgore wanted to give back to his community during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, as well as challenge himself after many of his races were canceled. He ran 100 miles Friday in his hometown of Palm Bay, Florida and has since raised nearly $15,000 with a GoFundMe account. “I wanted a new way to push my limits,” he said. “I am running to raise awareness and donations for the communities needing it most.” The donations will be used to purchase gift cards from struggling NYC run specialty stores that Kilgore works with on a daily basis. In turn, he'll provide shoes to hospital workers fighting on the front lines of the pandemic. “We will donate them to NYC health and hospitals to provide those medical workers supportive footwear while they are working long days to keep my city healthy,” he said. Kilgore won multiple state championships at the high school level at Holy Trinity Episcopal (Melbourne, Fla.) and went onto compete collegiately for the University of Florida, University of Colorado, as well as Oklahoma State. He also competed for Team USA at the 2019 Trail World Championships in Portugal. He represents On and also works for the company as a technical rep in the NYC and Philadelphia areas. Kilgore completed the solo 100-mile run, the longest of his career, in a brisk 17 hours and 47 minutes. Despite feeling a little sore the following day, he calls the experience one of the most impactful runs of his career. “Without a doubt one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences of my life,” he said. “The support from the run community was amazing as well. It was great to be able to interact with everyone throughout the run as well as have an outstanding amount of donations flow in. Really a remarkable experience and journey.” More news |
