Bowerman Track Club Women Run World Record 4x1,500 MetersPublished by
World (Women) and American (Men) Records Fall At Portland Intrasquad IV By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor The quartet of Colleen Quigley, Elise Cranny, Karissa Schweizer and Shelby Houlihan put on another record-breaking performance Friday at the fourth intrasquad meet featuring coach Jerry Schumacher's Bowerman Track Club pros at Jesuit High. Houlihan anchored the group to a total time of 16 minutes, 27.02 seconds — six seconds faster than the 2014 world record set by the Kenyan team of Mercy Cherono, Faith Kipyegon, Irene Jelagat and Hellen Obiri at the 2014 World Relays in Nassau, The Bahamas (16:33.58). Houlihan split 4:05 to keep the team under world-record pace. A 'B' team consisting of Courtney Frerichs, Marielle Hall, Gwen Jorgensen and Emily Infeld was a distant second in 17:29.98. The men followed and Lopez Lomong anchored an American team that included Evan Jager, Grant Fisher and Sean McGorty to victory in 14:34.97. That came out to better than 3:39 per man. A second BTC team with Marc Scott, Moh Ahmed, Ryan Hill and Woody Kincaid finished in 14:44.69. That took down a mark of 14:40.80 set by Pat Casey, David Torrence, Will Leer, and Leo Manzano (also at the 2014 World Relays). The BTC also dedicated Friday's action to a fund-raising effort for the Equal Justice Initiative. Other events included mixed gender events in the 4x800 and 4x400 relays. More news |
