Matthew Ramsden Takes Over World Lead in Italy, Runs No. 3 Mile in Australian HistoryPublished by
Ramsden improves on mark produced by Hoare a week earlier in South Carolina by more than two seconds to win 30th Ambrosian Mile in Milan, now trails only Mottram and Doyle; Crippa ascends to No. 2 in Italian history By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor One week after rising Australian talent Oliver Hoare, 23, ran a world-leading mile in South Carolina, another of the country’s promising young distance standouts produced an even better performance Saturday at the 30th Ambrosian Mile at the Enrico Mattei Sports Center in Milan, Italy. Matthew Ramsden, 23, elevated to the No. 3 outdoor performer in Australian history by clocking 3 minutes, 51.23 seconds to prevail against Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa (3:52.08). Australian Ryan Gregson was third in 3:52.38, as all three athletes ran faster than Hoare’s mark of 3:53.35 achieved Aug. 29 at the third annual South Carolina Trackfest in Columbia. Ramsden, whose previous mile best was 3:53.32 from last year in London, trails only Craig Mottram (3:48.98) and Simon Doyle (3:49.91) on the all-time Australian list. Gregson just missed his personal best of 3:52.24, as he ranks as the No. 6 performer in Australian history, with Hoare at No. 8. Crippa elevated to the No. 2 performer in Italian history, trailing only the 3:51.96 achieved by Gennaro Di Napoli at the same event in 1992. Italy’s Giulia Aprile won the women’s mile in 4:36.44, ascending to the No. 8 outdoor performer in the world this year. More news |
