Friday morning on paved path along the Row River south of Eugene, Nike athletes Galen Rupp and Suguru Osako pushed themselves to fast times in a half marathon organized by the Eugene Marathon.

Although the location and time were not published, it appears that the race took place in the same spot where Sara Hall ran the sixth-fastest half marathon in U.S. history on Aug. 7.

With Craig Engels and Pat Tiernan serving as pacers, Rupp finished the race in 60 minutes, 22 seconds -- about 35 seconds slower that his personal best and 39 seconds shy of Ryan Hall's American record. It was Rupp's first race since winning the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Atlanta in February.

Osako, the Japanese national record holder in the marathon, finished in 61:15 -- two seconds slower than his personal best.
