PRESS RELEASE

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., Feb. 18, 2021 – With complete meet information now available, the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation is counting down the weeks until the new NSAF USA Meet of Champions in Myrtle Beach, SC takes off March 25-28, 2021 at the outstanding Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. The NSAF is thankful to its partners, including The City of Myrtle Beach, Visit Myrtle Beach, The Garrett Companies, RunnerSpace.com and AthleticNET for helping create this highly-anticipated meet.

The meet’s new digital home is NSAFMeetOfChamps.com. New information about the NSAF’s COVID-19 protocols, Myrtle Beach partner hotels, admission and ticket details, facility info and map, and all of the meet info detail is now posted, in addition to previously published entry standards, schedule and registration links. The City of Myrtle Beach and Visit Myrtle Beach are providing tremendous resources and partnership, making this meet a true community event on a local, state and national level.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide a championship-level meet to the track and field community at this beautiful facility,” said NSAF Meet Director Kristi Rieger. “We are embracing the current health situation with great caution and will require all coaches, athletes, spectators, and officials to show a negative COVID-19 test prior to entering the event. We are limiting attendees for each session, well within local and state mandates, as well as requiring masks. We're so grateful to our partners, and we’ve spent a tremendous amount of time working together to develop these protocols to ensure the safest meet for everyone. With two sessions per day, we can safely accommodate an outstanding schedule of events.”

Meanwhile, in addition to hosting the site, RunnerSpace.com will be on the ground with the NSAF in Myrtle Beach, providing another great live webcast and overall meet coverage. The NSAF is thrilled that The Garrett Companies will be sponsoring the RunnerSpace webcast, enabling the meet to be broadcast free of charge. The Garrett Companies and its Founder/CEO Eric Garrett were the presenting sponsor for last fall’s very successful NSAF XC Town USA Meet of Champions. And, once again, AthleticNET hosts the NSAF’s meet registration site. The meet results will be posted there, as well as RunnerSpace.com and from the home page of our timing company partners at PrimeTime Timing (Pttiming.com).

The spectrum of Championship events offered will be very familiar to those who have attended the NSAF’s Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro over recent years. A full range of sprint, hurdle, distance, jumping and throwing events, relays ranging from the 4x100 to 4x1 Mile, plus the multis and 3,000m walk will be contested. The events offered for middle-school, freshman and Emerging Elite athletes are also very similar to the 2019 NSAF Outdoor Nationals, with the schedule building from the middle-school to the Championship level during the four days.

The Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium has many advantages when it comes to hosting a meet in the COVID-19 era, including throwing venues outside the stadium. The 15-acre size of the facility offers the ability to remain as safe as possible, while accommodating numbers of individuals commensurate with a championship-level event.

The NSAF USA Meet of Champions in Myrtle Beach, SC is a USATF-sanctioned event open to high school and middle-school athletes based on meeting qualification guidelines. Numerous elite athletes and teams from around the country have already signed up for the Championship section events. Recognizing the difficulty many have had in finding meets, the NSAF has made the middle school and freshman divisions more accessible by eliminating entry standards for those events, while still offering high-level competition. The entry limit for most events is 24 athletes or relay teams, with acceptances on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Visit Myrtle Beach is proud to welcome the NSAF USA Meet of Champions to Myrtle Beach and Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium,” said Jonathan Paris, Executive Director of Sports Tourism, Visit Myrtle Beach. “Along with our partners, the City of Myrtle Beach and the NSAF, we’re looking forward to putting on a safe and exciting meet for these elite middle and high school athletes from across the country. When not at the track, we hope the athletes and their families enjoy all our destination has to offer, including our 60 miles of beautiful beaches.”
